New Orleans based, MUTEMATH has been on a steady climb to the top of the music business since their inception in 2001 as a collaboration between lead vocalist and keyboardist Paul Meany and drummer Darren King. With a high energy marriage of electronic pop and alternative rock that pulls from a plethora of incluences, MUTEMATH continue to build an international fan base through tireless effort on the festival circuit, tons of shows, and smart social networking. Above all else, the talent these gentlemen display has anyone who hears them falling in love.

From humble beginnings in a self professed dusty garage, MUTEMATH has continually challenged themselves to reach a higher standard with each record. Their first EP, Reset, sold over 30,000 copies and netted them an artist development deal with Warner before they moved on to their first record. However, when preparing to release their first full length self titled album, Warner reached indecision over continuing with the band and they were forced to self-publish the LP. Much to Warner's chagrin, the album was received very favorably and garnered the band attention from MTV, Paste, Spin, as well as landing them on the cover of Billboard and Pollstar. The video for their song,Typical, from this album was nominated for a Grammy in 2007, but lost to Johnny Cash's Hurt.

The Spotlight EP in 2009 helped the band to further themselves as it allowed them to be featured on the Twilight soundtrack with the song "Spotlight." In February that year it reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Singles chart. Not one to rest on their laurels, the band set a high goal for themselves on their follow up called Armistice. According to Meany they wanted to embarrass the previous full length record. After a lengthy recording process in which the band nearly split, the album debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200 with sales of over 18,000 units the first week.

With a new album, Odd Soul, on the loose, MUTEMATH continues to charge into the spotlight with their talent and work ethic. On Odd Soul the band wanted to create an album with a spark of spontaneity and positivity. With a stark lyrical honesty and apparent inclusion of even greater influences, MUTEMATH has created a new record that is stylistically their own, while at the same time new and fresh. It has been well received and debuted at #24 on the Billboard 200.

Play Music City was happy to catch up to Paul Meany and Darren King at DeLuna Fest in Pensacola, FL where MUTEMATH were stepping up to headline the festival after Linkin Park canceled citing medical reasons. And for the record, MUTEMATH absolutely nailed it in front of a large beach going crowd, performing many of their best songs with precision, energy and flair. With an appearance on the Tonight Show coming up on November 4th and tour dates in Japan to follow, MUTEMATH is poised to become the international sensation they deserve to be.
