Pivot
Pivot
The Sydney, Australia based Pivot creates some of the most amazing and beautiful progressive/electronica recordings today. With their multi-instrumental background, brothers Laurence and Richard Pike have teamed with Dave Miller to showcase well thought out and painstakingly orchestrated pieces that incorporate traditional guitar and drums, as well as minutely crafted samples. The ensuing product is layer upon layer of melodic sound that immediately captures the attention and emotion allowing these wordless poets to tell their tales with absolute clarity.
For a long time, Pivot languished in an almost intentional obscurity where they polished their craft into the unique sound that jump kicked its way onto the scene in 2005 with the acclaimed, "Make Me Love You". It wasn’t long until word reached the powers that be at Warp Records where the band was offered a deal that eventually became, O Soundtrack My Heart. It was this album that has rocketed them into the international spotlight as the ensuing tour saw them traveling to countries all over Europe and in Australia in support of bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Sigur Ross, Gary Numan, The Yellow Magic Orchestra, and The Chemical Brothers.
Pivot takes great pride that the produced samples in their live performance are not a cache of pre-prepared material ready at the touch of a button. The band weaves these various pieces together along with the live guitar and drums so that all the instruments are working in harmony.
Though the band is relatively young, they have all had great experience working together and collaborating with other great musical luminaries. As their sound grows and develops, watch for their place in the awareness of the public at large to grow. Pivot is breaking ground into the new realms where technology meets art.
