Madi Diaz
The band Madi Diaz is more than just a woman. Its actually the collaboration between to extraordinary artists, Madi Diaz herself and Kyle Ryan. These two talented individuals make music that speaks to the soul of a person in deep, profound ways. Their voices dance in wonderful harmonies as their well crafted musical accompaniment swirl around the lyrical poetry. Their style is intriguing and poppy, capturing the listeners attention and holding it for as long as their grip lasts.
The two writing parters started their journeys in music far from where they've ended up. Diaz grew up in Lancaster, PA where her father Eric Svalgard is the Music Director at the Wilmington, Delaware campus of the Paul Green School of Rock Music. Diaz herself was a star student at the institution original campus in Philadelphia. Ryan hails from the fertile Midwest, Lincoln, Nebraska. There Ryan chose to be a passionate drummer, before carrying on to college at the state university. Guitar proved much more appealing that Physics class, and soon his time was devoted to music.
Diaz and Ryan met in Boston where they both moved to attend the Berklee College of Music. Their collaborative musical achievement began soon after, on Diaz's self-released first album, Skin and Bone, in 2007. After its release, the duo took to the road around New York and Boston, gigging with bassist Adam Popick. Already the publicists and managers began to take notice as they shone on the strength of their incredible song writing, unique style, and tight live performances.
Soon the Northeastern cold had run its course and the pair moved south to Nashville with its blossoming indie music scene. Here they reunited with Popick and the group was on their way. They began their Nashville stay by performing at venues such as the Basement and Mercy Lounge.
In 2009, Madi Diaz released its latest EP called Ten Gun Salute. It progresses from the bands original sound with more complex instrumentation and arrangement with an experimental skew. Madi Diaz has received great press nationally for their work, named one of the best acts at South by Southwest. Diaz herself was awarded the prestigious Abe Oleman Scholarship for Excellence in Songwriting from the the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Madi Diaz played the 2009 Bonnaroo Festival and continues to tour heavily. They are currently in the studio with producer John Alagia working on a full length album. Look for it out soon.
