The River Raid

By: Tim Roberson

The five men of The River Raid have seen their fair share of hotel rooms and racked up plenty of airline miles, rocking their way out of Brazil and into the spotlight. Their unique and ear catching blend of toe tapping tunes could best be described as John Fogerty meets Portuguese pop. The Southern United States flavor laced into their music can be surprising, but truly makes them stand out as not only a great Brazilian band, but a great band period.

The River Raid are consistently showing their mettle as they compete on a world stage against the best upcoming bands in the world. They received honorable mention in the Billboard World Song Contest when their songs, “Time Up” and “Summer,” reached the top 500. They also were the most voted band in the rock category on the internet “People’s Voice” where they received an honorable mention from the jury that was composed of greats such as, Julian Casablanca from the Strokes, Frank Black from the Pixies, Robert Smith from the Cure, and the great Jerry Lee Lewis. They’ve also received much notice in international press, as well as being nominated at influential music awards such as the Hollywood Music Awards, the Toronto Independent Music Awards, and the Ontario Independent Music Awards.

Their first album, The River Raid, was accompanied by a mini-world tour that introduced them officially to the world audience they have come to woo. They were the opening act for Paramore on the Brazilian leg of their 2008 tour. Multi-platinum producer John Cornfield who has worked with such act as Muse, Robert Plant, Oasis, Supergrass, and The Verve mastered the second and most recent album, In a Forest.

The River Raid continues to work hard to break onto the world stage as one of the truly greats, and they are quickly accomplishing their goal as they wow and impress audiences worldwide. Their energetic and poignant style speaks to the listener and conveys their heartfelt poetry over a layer of tight, steady rock n roll.
